“Do I contradict myself? Very well, then, I contradict myself; I am large – I contain multitudes.” ― Walt Whitman
I’m Ka L-O-K, graphic artist and illustrator from Biel/Bienne, a bilingual city in Switzerland.
I enjoy creating sober graphic artworks with a melancholy energy.
Nature enthusiasts love my nature-themed art series HelvEdition. In the series Folia Mystica I use a hazardous, primitive printing technique to sublime the beauty of foliage.
I work with mixed media, using traditional techniques as well as digital proceedings. I love photography and to sublime my captures to create an unique atmosphere.
Having grown up at the foot of the mountains, I have lived in the city for decades but my natural ties have remained unmitigated. It is this duality between urban and natural atmosphere which my works reflect. I love the smell of metal, of the first heavy rain drops on hot asphalt as well as the smell of freshly cut hay. I love the frosty crunchy sound of snow under my soles, the roaring rustle in the foliage before a summer storm, and the gurgling sound of spring water.
A state of tension that winds through my life like a common thread in all areas. Between the urge to create and the need to make money, between my Swiss mother tongue and the second French language spoken by love, between tradition awareness, the flair for novelty and the need for development and advancement, between disillusionment and intrinsic primal trust between the ambiguity of the darkness and the clarity of the light, between the use of digital and analogue traditional techniques.
